Welcome!

On behalf of the Student Affairs team at Ivy Tech Community College Northwest (also known as Region 1), I thank you for either considering or choosing Ivy Tech for your educational needs. Ivy Tech is well-suited to serve you, whether you need some brush-up courses, a technical certificate, or an associate in science degree, we can provide you with the services and support to be successful in your academic endeavors. We strongly believe in creating an atmosphere that leads to student success – at Ivy Tech and beyond! We will provide you with the tools, advice, and support to be successful, but ultimately your success depends on what you are willing to invest in yourself. A basic foundation for creating student success lies with the concept illustrated below: Please note that Ivy Tech has adopted this model from our colleagues at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida.

A =>As =>AS =>aS => S

Where “A” stands for advisor or counselor and “S” represents the student. What this means that in the beginning, the student is going to depend on advisors to help them understand the system and answer basic questions. As the student progresses through the system, the advisor provides you with the tools and teaches you how to use the tools, so that eventually, you can navigate the college-going process by yourself – and be successful in doing so! We call the tools Pathways to Student Success.

Below is a further explanation of what Student Affairs is all about at Ivy Tech Community College Northwest. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact myself or anyone else in the Office of Student Affairs!

Sincerely,
R. Keith Howard
Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs
